Like most kids back in the day, I LOVED reading comics. Superheros like Batman, Spider Man and Iron Man were very popular. I also loved Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos who regularly whipped EVIL AXIS butt. As the conventional sixties youth culture evolved into a vibrant counterculture movement, comics evolved into comedic socio-political platforms. 

This was the fertile test ground for a whole new generation of comedy writers.
